Spent Wash Evaporation (Effluent Evaporation):
Evaporation is a process, which is employed to remove a liquid from a solution, emulsion or suspension by boiling some of the liquid. Thus, it is a thermal concentration or thermal separation process. In our language, the evaporation process is one that begins with a liquid product and ends up with a highly concentrated liquid as the main product. During the process of Spent Wash Evaporation, we use a Falling film evaporators programme to concentrate Spent Wash up to 25° brix.
Falling Film Evaporator (Integrated With Distillation):
In the falling film evaporators vapours and liquid flow downwards in a parallel flow. A thin film enters the heating tubes through a distribution device in the head of evaporator, and flows downward at boiling temperature, and partially-evaporated. This gravity produced the downward movement and increasingly augmented by the flow of co–current vapour.
In first evaporator, obtain heat from the vapours of Analyser column. The vapour temperature is 74ºC. In first effect, the Spent Wash vaporised provides energy to second effect. Also, there is no need of any steam at this stage. In the first stage, Vapour condensed send back to primary condensate tank, and then as feed, it fed to the Rectifier column.
There are three falling film evaporators in total. There is a forward feed arrangement for the evaporators. Last evaporator vapours get condensed in a surface condenser. Falling film evaporators can be functioned at low temperature differences, between the boiling liquid and heating media. Also, they have a very short product contact time, usually just a few seconds per pass. These properties make the falling film evaporators appropriate for the Spent Wash evaporation.
